NYC 2013

2013 was my first time visiting New York City (NYC) and I can’t tell you how much I have enjoyed it. Straightaway I felt at home!
For instance when stepping out of the bus from the airport – fully loaded with several suitcases and bags – the first thing that came up to my mind was: “Great, no one is slowing me down”.

On top there are so many more reasons. The night life, (jazz and classical) concerts, foods, shops, museums… I cannot mention all of them. But above all, what an amazing city architecture. Sooner or later I will come back!

And of course, I took my chance to take some City– and Streetscapes, beside all the sightseeing. Here are some of my photographs from the 2013 NYC visit:

You will find further photographs from this travel in the Cityscapes Portfolio and Streetscapes Portfolio galleries.

The International Center of Photography

Another highlight was visiting the International Center of Photography (). There are so many great museums and galleries in NYC. Nevertheless this one was special, because of its purpose to be:

the world’s leading institution dedicated to photography and visual culture. Cornell Capa founded ICP in 1974 to champion “concerned photography” — socially and politically minded images that can educate and change the world. Through our exhibitions, education programs, community outreach, and public programs, ICP offers an open forum for dialogue about the power of the image.

And all the exhibitions on display that time, have demonstrated that purpose.

  • “Zoe Strauss – 10 Years” ()
  • “The Future of America – Lewis Hine’s New Deal Photographs” ()
  • “Lewis Hine” ()
  • “JFK November 22, 1963 – A Bystander’s View of History” ()

Finally, beside all that highlights, it was simply a great experience to visit the (adopted) home city of some of best photographers of the world. To list some: Ken Schles (), Saul Leiter () (movie ), Thomas Hoepker ( with his iconic photograph of 9/11) and Miron Zownir ().

In other words, I will definitely come back!!

Yours
Sven Michael
